‘Motorcycle Diaries’ wins N.Y. Film Critics award
Brazilian filmmaker Walter Salles’ “Diarios de Motocicleta” (The Motorcycle Diaries), reflecting Cuban-Argentine guerrilla fighter Ernesto Che Guevara’s youthful road trip through South America, was awarded best foreign movie at the New York Film Critics Circle Award.
Martin Scorsese was selected best director for “The Aviator,” “Sideways” was awarded best film, and Jamie Foxx (“Ray”) and Imelda Staunton (“Vera Drake”) received the award for best leading actor and actress, respectively.
Michael Moore’s “Fahrenheit 9/11” won the award for best feature, Charlie Kaufman was awarded best script writer for “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.” Virginia Madsen and Thomas Haden Church, both of “Sideways,” were chosen best supporting actors.
The event is said to be an early portent of future Oscar winners.
