Washington, (Prensa Latina) At least 55 people died victims of snow storms hitting the northeast region of US more than a week ago, local authorities reported Tuesday.

According to same sources some 24 citizens died in Kentucky, while more than 250,000 people are still without power services.

Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear said this ice storm has been ‘the hardest natural disaster the state has faced all along its modern history’.

Beshear visited those hardest hit areas during the weekend, CNN TV News announced Tuesday.

The recovery actions carried out by National Guard troops to help the families affected has delayed because of constant fall of freezing rain, CNN reported.

National Meteorological Service announced the continuance of winter storms in several regions of the states of Kentucky, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Virginia.
