It was the creation of the labor movement that brought about decent living standards, “the weekend” and the “middle class” in the United States and countries around the world.

It is the labor movement along with its coalition partners that is today on the front lines in the battles for progress.

The speeches by AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer Richard Trumka (first delivered at the United Steelworkers of America convention), in which he made a powerful case that labor had to be the force that fought and defeated racism for the betterment of all working people are an example.

Of course, Trumka’s speech was barely hinted at in the corporate media.

The unification of the United Steelworkers of America and the British Unite into a transatlantic union called Workers Uniting was mentioned virtually nowhere in the “mainstream” media.

That’s why — or, more correctly, one of the reasons why — you need the People’s Weekly World. Isn’t it important that more people see this kind of news?
