"Conservative values" Texas judge beats daughter

ROCKPORT, Texas - Shocking video surfaced recently showing Republican Aransas County Judge William "Bill" Adams battering his physically disabled 16-year-old daughter Hillary Adams. According to Hillary's YouTube page, she has suffered from cerebral palsy since birth. The 2004 incident followed Hillary's usage of the Internet to download video games without her father's permission.

In the video, Adams can be seen ordering his wife to remove a toddler from the room before turning off the lights and beating Hillary over 10 times across her legs and back with a belt while the daughter lies cradled in the fetal position crying. Judge Adams can be heard ordering his daughter to "lay down! I'll spank you in the f***ing face!" during the beating. The judge then leaves the room, apparently to retrieve another belt before yelling "I never got mah lick in oh 'er...I'll beat you into submission!" and continuing the beating. The judge then continues to verbally abuse his daughter for several minutes, threatening physical abuse for future "disobedience."

Hillary's mother can be seen in the video acting as a less-active participant in the abuse. According to Hillary's YouTube posting, her mother was also a victim of the judge's domestic abuse. Hallie G. Adams divorced her husband in 2007 after 21 years of marriage.

Adams came to the bench in 1998 by defeating Democrat Robert Shellenberger with 67% of the vote. The east Texas county of Aransas has a population of around 23,000. According to the Aransas County Republican Party's website, its mission is to "promote conservative values." During his 1998 campaign, Adams pledged to institute youth guidance programs that would involve retirees. Calls and emails to Adams and to the chair and vice-chair of the Aransas County Republican Party were unreturned by the time of this publication.

Shawna Willing, director of the Texas State Commission on Judicial Conduct, told the People's World that Texas law prohibits the disclosure of any information regarding potential commission investigations before the commission has rendered an opinion. Thus far, the commission has not taken any formal disciplinary action against Judge Adams.

  • I think that a normal spanking (wich in my mind is a swat or two with your hand on the leg or butt) is not only okay, but sometimes neccesary.

I have two (2) very different children...

First born (boy) you could talk and reason with. Had one or two swats in his whole life and never gave us any trouble.

Baby girl was not as easy (six) 6 years later... She only had a couple of swats over the years too (It was only to establish dominance on our part). She was the most hard headed and hard to handle child that you have ever seen... Today, she is the envy of every parent that does not have her... Well adjusted, polite (we are southern) and gorgeous.

Spankings are not supposed to hurt or degrade. The LAST thing that you should do is break you're child's SPIRIT.

These people are crazy. I would not even think of saying that stuff in FRONT of my kids, much less to them.

I thought that it was almost a little perverted, by both the mother and father...

  • Dishonoring to their oath, they are in the bench to serve "THE BEST INTEREST OF THE CHILD". Worst is to know that this "Horrific act of abuse", will go unpunished. Honestly I expect this to have no real consequences on this 'ABUSER'. This is the real world, I see this type of actions in most cases go unpushined and covered up by their own disciplinary board director.

  • I think judge william adams and his wife should be ordered to lay down on Hillary Adams bed and be beaten with the belt buckle until they are black and blue. If they resisted, I would tell them, the beatings would continue until they could take it like a man and woman.

  • Re. this sadistic incident, Texas law has got to be one of the most regressive in the U.S.

There is a difference between responsible discipline & outdated abuse in dealing w/ children.

It's incredible that this guy is a judge; & on top of that his daughter is disabled. But I guess it's a case of a Texas conservative adhering to that old time abuse cause it's good enough for him; never mind what his daughter or wife thinks. In the name of "conservative values," a person is left devalued.

It is true that there are examples of individual kids being out of control, & thus discipline is neccessary. But what about school bullies, e.g.? Would this "judge" take them to task? Or, for him, are they symbols of excused "virility" in a dog-eat-dog society?

  • I will wager that he espouses "family values". What a monster.

And yes, it does have to do with the conservative message. The conservative right is fond of quoting the Bible--Spare the rod and spoil the child.

The so called crime of the child does nothing to justify the abuse by her father.

  • We often hear from those who fight to uphold this practice for those under the age of 18 (even to the blaming of the social maladies of the day on a supposed "lack" of it), but we rarely, if ever, find advocates for the return of corporal punishment to the general adult community, college campuses, inmate population, or military. Why is that?

Ask ten unyielding proponents of child/adolescent/teenage-only "spanking" about the "right" way to do it, and what would be abusive, indecent, or obscene, and you will get ten different answers.

These proponents should consider making their own video-recording of the "right way" to do it.

  • Don't disobey your parents and that wouldnt have happened. Texas law allows force to be used as a disciplinary technique. If more parents would have disciplined their children in such a manner, maybe this world wouldn't be so full of disrespectful and disobedient children. Nowadays kids think they can call the police for receiving a spanking. The 21st century is a joke. My parents spanked me and I believe I'm a better person for it.

  • I couldn't even finish watching this video. It literally made me sick to my stomach. What a sick sadistic monster. Whether you believe in spanking as a form of discipline or not, he clearly crosses the line into abuse with several minutes of beating his daughter mixed with profanity and other verbal abuse. When confirming that it was him in the video, Judge Adams is quoted as saying "In my mind, I haven't done anything wrong other than discipline my child after she was caught stealing.” The fact that he can't recognize the severity of his actions coupled with the fact that he is a family law judge is truly terrifying.
