Martin Sheen, George Clooney call for more support for Obama

Martin Sheen joined fellow actor George Clooney in calling for a more balanced approach to criticism of President Obama.

Sheen, appearing on Joy Behar's Headline News to promote his new film The Way said, "Steady, steady: You're talking about a very special man." He continued, "I don't think he's getting a lot of help. He's done a great job."

When Behar asked about criticism of the president's economic policy, Sheen replied, "But have they focused on the real problem? What about corporate America sharing some of its profits, investing back in the country? They talk about patriotism; they're more interested in profits. That's where the problem lies."

Sheen criticized big business on the issue of investments, saying, "There's more than enough dough to go around. If they stopped trying to destroy the unions and organized labor. That's what saved this country in World War II: the middle class."

Obama is the "only adult in the room," Sheen concluded.

George Clooney, when recently advertising his new film Ides of March, said on ABC, "I'm disillusioned by the people who are disillusioned by Obama, quite honestly, I am."

Democrats, suggested Clooney, don't support their own. "Democrats find singular issues and go, 'Well, I didn't get everything I wanted.' I'm a firm believer in sticking by and sticking up for the people whom you've elected," he added.

President Obama is campaigning in Maryland and Virginia for passage of his American Jobs Act. Components of the bill are being reintroduced into the Senate after its defeat last week. Obama called on supporters to demand passage from the Senate.

Republicans voted in lockstep against the measure. Jesse Jackson, speaking at the unveiling of the MLK memorial last weekend, said Republicans are willing to "sink the ship in order to defeat its captain."

  • It's easy for those “limousine-liberal-Hollywood elites” to ignore the prolonged pain of the rest of us.
Obama traded “single-payer/public-option” for campaign cash from the insurance industry. He sold out Wall Street reform for more campaign cash. Obama pushed through 3 more “free-trade” deals like those which have already cost us most of our manufacturing and high tech jobs. He's also pushing for more “re-training” programs for the unemployed so they can compete with graduates for the fewer and fewer jobs available. And he's pushing to raise the retirement age for social security recipients, thereby reducing turn-over and decreasing the availability of jobs. Obama has become an obstacle to progress; a willing co-conspirator of the Republicans and faux-democratic Blue Dogs and DLCers...a Wall Street tool! It is time to rally away from a Democratic Party that is no longer pro-labor or pro-main street. A Democratic Party that refuses to admit that Bill Clinton (tool of Wallmart and Wall Street) did massive damage with deregulation of Wall Street and passing GAT and NAFTA. A Democratic Party in love with "free trade" deals, and complacent regarding off-shoring/out-sourcing of jobs and assets...who refuses to acknowledge class warfare and fight back on our behalf.
Few investigations into what and who caused the financial collapse? No prosecutions and no end to the looting? Tax payer money (TARP) handed to the looters who then pocketed it? The proceeds of the looting taxed at 15%? The looters standard of living continuing to soar while their victims continue hemorrhaging jobs and homes? SHARED sacrifice going forward??? It should have been: "we've been sacrificing for three years while the looters continued to prosper; NOW IT'S THEIR TURN!!! Instead, Obama just gave the store away. No revenue = No money for work programs like a WPA or a CCC.
Our energy has been wasted. Our petitions and dollars have yielded negative results. We are being ignored...worse...our leaders pride themselves on distancing themselves from us! We need to identify the problem and deal with it. THIRD PARTY. We can't afford four more years of this slick talking LIAR. He is actually doing more damage than Bush: more spending for the military industrial complex (and more wars); more for big pharma and the insurance industry; more for Wall Street looters; more Big Brother; etc. I can no longer distinguish between "the lesser of two evils:" it's a tie.
TAX THE LOOTING RICH!!! No more discounts! Drop the deductions! Lose the loopholes! Shut the shelters! End the off-shoring! Close the Caymans! Sanction the Swiss (UBS & Credit Suisse)! ELIMINATE the cap on Social Security Tax! These out-sourcing Globalists do not need or deserve discounts!!!

  • Thank you George Clooney and Martin Sheen! These are the very same things that I have been saying! The only reason why people are able to complain about our current president is because he's not getting backed up by the very people who have voted for him. There is so much that he can do and so much that he wants to do if Congress could just stop trying to deny him everything and giving him "no" all the time.
