NEW YORK– A large and militant demonstration gathered at Washington Square Park in New York City to celebrate May Day. Many organizations and individuals took part in the rally which later marched to Foley Square. in front of City Hall. The theme of the march and rally was Immigrant Rights. Numerous rallies took place in the U.S. and in other countries around the world. May Day which has been portrayed as a communist holiday originated in the U.S A. over 100 years ago after the Hay Market killings in Chicago.
