Members of the 23-year old organization Let Cuba Live recently established what they call the Maine Campaign to Free the Cuban Five.

Unions and allies block voter suppression in at least two states

The labor-backed group, Fair Elections Ohio, has submitted almost 320,000 signatures to place the reversal of the state's new voter suppression law on the ballot. This puts the law's provisions on hold for the 2011 and 2012 election cycles.

Maine’s governor assaults the dignity of working people

Having been raised in Maine, son of a lineman and a mother and stepmother who were state workers,  I am infuriated that the Republican governor there has ordered the removal of  mural that depicts the role of Maine working people.

Lady Gaga urges Senate to repeal ‘don't ask, don't tell'

The Senate is expected to vote on repealing a 17-year-old law barring open gays from serving in the military Tuesday afternoon, but supporters of the repeal say they lack the necessary 60 votes to pass the legislation.
