At Monday's "Immigration and Michigan's Economic Future" conference, CEOs, foundation leaders, New York's mayor and Michigan's Republican governor all discussed the benefits of immigration.
"How does a documented person look? Can a Border Patrol agent tell by physical appearance, or name, if someone is documented or not, a criminal or not?"
South Carolina has become the fifth and latest state poised to enact a draconian anti-immigration law, after Republican Gov. Nikki Haley signed SB 20 last week.
"But I am still an undocumented immigrant. And that means living in a different kind of reality."
Critics say the new law is worse than Arizona's SB 1070.
By a 5-3 vote, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that Arizona's first anti-immigrant law is legal.
Hundreds commemorated the 25th anniversary of the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights.
The measure will not impose any cost on Illinois taxpayers and could benefit as many as 95,000 immigrant youth.
The Illinois version does not include a path to citizenship, but its seen as a move to counter some of the anti-immigrant measures being proposed nationwide.
