John Legend recently teamed up with the AFL-CIO to visit Washington Corrections Center for Women because the labor movement wants to reform the unfair criminal justice system.
Continuing #FREEAMERICA‘s Listening and Learning tour, Grammy Award winning artist, Legend and the AFL-CIO, one of the largest union federations in the country, visit Washington Corrections Center for Women to learn about its program where inmates learn trades with the help of unions.
The issues of mass incarceration and the school-to-prison pipeline, coupled with nationwide protests over the deaths of unarmed young men and women of color, provide an unprecedented opportunity for all of us to get involved in criminal justice reform efforts.
#FREEAMERICA is a multi-year culture campaign initiated by Legend to change the national conversation about our country’s misguided policies and transform America’s criminal justice system.
In 2015, Legend began a nationwide listening and learning tour, visiting with people who are incarcerated, law enforcement, legislators, and experts who’ve been thinking critically about America’s prison problem.
