Under an agreement signed by a judge today, Wisconsin voters will be headed to the polls on June 5 for recall elections involving Gov. Scott Walker, Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch, and four Republican state senators.
The agreement also calls for primaries (if there are any) to take place on May 8.
Following the defeat of Wisconsin’s vote-suppressing – and unconstitutional – voter ID bill, this bit of news comes as yet another excellent prospect for workers throughout Wisconsin, who will almost surely be ramping up their activism.
According to JSOnline, over 931,000 certified signatures have been submitted to recall Walker, whose anti-union policies – and move to dismantle collective bargaining rights – have been an assault on the working class of Wisconsin. To conduct a recall, 540,208 valid signatures are needed.
Moreover, nearly 843,000 signatures were submitted to recall Kleefisch.
Meanwhile, the four Republican state senators facing recall are Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald, Sen. Pam Galloway, Sen. Terry Moulton, and Sen. Van Wanggaard.
After a massive rally and march around the capital on Mar. 10 (consisting of a broad coalition of workers and activists from all walks of life), it is clear that workers are not going to stand for Walker’s corruption.
As so many demonstrators’ signs have predicted, the time may soon be approaching to “Reclaim Wisconsin.”
