DENVER — Hillary Clinton stopped the Democratic convention roll call vote tonight and moved to nominate Barack Obama as Democratic Party presidential candidate by acclamation. This is the first time in history that a major U.S. political party has nominated an African American as president.
Delegates were crying. With tears streaming down their cheeks, the overwhelming historic moment seemed to wash over the delegates en masse.
“We need change. For the kids, we can’t have four more years of what we’ve had for the last eight years,” said one delegate.
Obama accepted the nomination and will give his speech Aug. 28, the 45th anniversary of the Aug. 28, 1963, March for Jobs and Freedom.
