Readers are answering the People’s World distress call, but more help is needed

Last week, I wrote to our readers sounding the alarm that the People’s World Fund Drive was in trouble. Unfortunately, it still is. But there is some good news to report!

Many of you responded to that emergency alert by donating for the first time during the drive; others sent in their second or even third contribution. THANK YOU!

In the last eight days, the total amount brought in has ticked upward from $65,000 to nearly $80,000. That’s solid proof of PW readers’ dedication to keeping this publication going.

Supporters in several states—Connecticut, Illinois, Minnesota, Ohio, and Washington—have already passed the goals they set for themselves, but yet they keep digging even deeper.

With less than two weeks to go in this first stage of the 2024 fundraising effort, though, we’ve still got $45,000 to go. Can we make it? It will be tough, but there are ways it can be done.

If supporters in a few places—like Northern California, Massachusetts, Missouri, New York, and Texas—are able to match their own contributions from last year, that would bring PW to the $125,000 mark.

Of course, the success of the fund drive doesn’t just rest on their shoulders. We need the help of people in every corner of the country if we’re going to meet our goal.

And events in the past few days have shown, again, just how important PW is.

Israel’s genocide against Gaza threatens to spin out of control into a world war. Republicans are pushing for a U.S. attack on Iran. The Trump trial underway in New York is exposing more MAGA plots against democracy. Volkswagen workers in Tennessee who are trying to organize with the UAW are facing an attack from all sides by right-wing Southern governors.

That was all in just the past five days!

People’s World is an essential voice for the ceasefire campaigns sweeping our nation. It’s a voice for the peace movement. It’s a voice for the massive coalition fighting to block Trump and fascism at the ballot box in November. And, as always, it’s a voice for workers engaged in the red-hot battles of the class struggle everywhere.

That voice needs your support. Can you give to help keep the digital printing presses rolling?

Donate or become a sustainer today.

Once more, we say thank you.
