Thank you, People’s World readers! We made our (first) fund drive goal

Thank you! We’ve done it again! People’s World is delighted to announce that, because of your generosity, we have completed the first part of our 2024 Fund Drive by surpassing our $125,000 goal.

It was challenging, but reaching this milestone on our 100th Birthday was never in doubt!

We appreciate how hundreds of our dedicated readers dug deep and donated, often at great sacrifice, to keep People’s World going. We held phone-a-thons, a $100 for 100 years challenge, and a successful May Day commemorative booklet. Groups of readers nationwide organized pledges, silent auctions, cookouts, parties, forums, phonebanks, and sent appeals.

Together, each donation of $5, $10, $25, $50, $100, and more keeps People’s World going and enables us to create great content every day, covering the issues and struggles that matter for working people.

Our award-winning reporters and volunteer writers have reported on strikes, labor organizing drives, grassroots protests for a ceasefire in Gaza, to defend reproductive and voting rights and environmental justice, and the historic voter mobilization underway for the November elections.

We have produced great coverage of cultural developments, including movie, theater, music, and book reviews.

You ensured that hundreds of incarcerated individuals get our weekly newsletter and the information and solidarity that comes with each issue.

Last month, our intrepid reporters covered the debates, discussions, and historic developments gavel to gavel from the recent Democratic National Convention.

Our readers appreciate what People’s World offers daily and what we add to their knowledge and understanding. They—you—understand the unique role and perspective of People’s World, to be partisan to working people, democracy, and the truth, and to report on the courageous movements, actions, and initiatives of our class and people and broad anti-MAGA coalition.

Our role is even more critical because many mainstream media outlets have abdicated the responsibility of essential journalism. They are becoming irrelevant in the face of the fascist menace, normalizing MAGA, and choosing to report on the 2024 elections as if it were a horse race rather than a desperate struggle to defend and expand democracy.

But we’re not done! We will continue to report on the historic efforts to defeat MAGA fascism and defend democracy!

Reaching our first goal of the 2024 Fund Drive was an incredible achievement, but our work continues. The total we have to hit by the end of the year is $200,000, so we’ve still got more money to raise.

Now that we’ve passed Labor Day, we must continue to raise funds to meet rising expenses and to bring you special coverage from the battleground states and districts, efforts to defend against voter suppression, and any MAGA coup attempts. Your continued support is vital in this ongoing struggle.

But for now—let’s celebrate!

Sincerely,

John Bachtell
