NEW YORK – The 22nd annual exhibition and sale of paintings, prints and folios, sponsored by the Reference Center for Marxist Studies, will be held here May 3-5 at the Winston Unity Auditorium, 235 W. 23 Street
More than 400 pieces of art, ranging in price from $10 to $10,000, will be on display. Included will be works by artists from the WPA program of the 1930s, Mexican printmakers and posters from the former Soviet Union. Works will also be included by prominent artists such as Elizabeth Catlett, Sue Coe, Antonio Frasconi, Hugo Gellert, Harry Gottlieb, W. Granville-Smith, John Heartfield, Leopoldo Mendez, Alice Neel, Anton Refregier, Philip Reisman, Harry Shoulberg, Joseph Solman and Charles White.
Friday’s program features an opening reception from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday feature viewing and sale of the art from noon to 5 p.m. on both days.
Sunday’s program also features artist Charles Keller speaking on the topic “Art and the Working Class,” as well as a raffle. Four prizes include framed artwork by Harry Gottlieb, Sue Coe, Erika Weihs and Tamara Kerr. Tickets are $5.
The annual art sale supports the Reference Center, a non-profit, internationally recognized resource. It is invaluable for scholars, trade unionists and activists working for international labor solidarity, racial equality, the rights of women and minorities and for peace and socialism.
