On June 14, 1924, in San Pedro California a mob armed with clubs attacked an IWW hall, where a program was being held to raise money for for defense. They were fighting a 1923 law that made being a member of the IWW a crime. Over 1000 people were arrested for IWW membership.
In San Pedro, the vigilante beat the crowd with clubs. During the turmoil several children were scalded. Seven of the workers were tarred and feathered. A Grand Jury was convened but did not bring any indictments.*
