The Communist Party USA issued the following statement on Sunday, July 14, 2024.

Statement on the Pennsylvania Rally Shooting:

The apparent assassination attempt on Donald Trump that resulted in the death of one person and the injury of others is sure to deepen the country’s political crisis. We know only too well the consequence of the assassinations of political figures.

As we have said many times, the CPUSA rejects violence and terror: They only serve the interests of the forces of hate and division. In these difficult times, we call on our members and friends to remain vigilant and resist provocation from any source as the country recovers from the aftermath of the shooting.

We remain committed to non-violent forms of struggle as we continue to work to address the main issues before the U.S. public: the Gaza genocide, climate change, abortion, voting and immigrant rights, health care, police violence, and equality for all.

Awakening Martin Luther King, Jr.’s dream and tradition of engaging millions in mass protest is the road to real change, peace, and progress.
