CPUSA condemns Trump’s bombing of Iran

The following statement was issued by the Communist Party USA on June 22, 2025. For further People’s World coverage of the War on Iran, click here.

After greenlighting and supplying Israel’s initial wave of attacks, Trump has now illegally ordered the U.S. military to bomb Iran with the alleged aim of eliminating their ability to develop a nuclear weapon. This was clearly a ruse. According to many sources, including the administration’s own intelligence agencies, Iran was not building a nuclear weapon.

The real goals of the U.S. administration are, on the one hand, to support the Netanyahu regime’s military campaigns, beginning with the Gaza genocide, and, on the other, regime change—to replace the current, independent Iranian government with one that is subservient to specific U.S. economic, political and military interests.

Those interests are, among others, reinstalling U.S. military bases, severing Iran’s close ties to Russia and China, ending its participation in BRICS and China’s Belt and Road Initiative, and completing its control over the entire Middle East with its vast fossil fuel reserves.

Thus, they seek a complete military defeat and decapitation of the political leadership of Iran, ends that are not only impossible to achieve but risk the outbreak of a wider conflict, including nuclear war.

The Communist Party USA unequivocally condemns this horrific, criminal act of war.

The bombing is another example of Trump’s repeated overstepping of his constitutional authority. It’s another step down the road to dictatorial rule. In blatant disregard for democracy at home, the MAGA administration is threatening to drag the country into a war the people do not want. Lawmakers have condemned the attacks, but the GOP grip on Congress means nothing will be done. Impeachment, however, is more than in order.

One thing is certain: Without mass public protest, the fascist-minded warmongers occupying the White House will feel even more emboldened. The time to hit the streets is now.

Trump’s decision to bomb Iran’s nuclear sites represents the most drastic and dangerous escalation in decades. Nuclear experts have warned that bombing these sites could lead to a “Chernobyl-level nuclear disaster” threatening the lives and health of millions. The Doomsday Clock has never been so close to the midnight of global nuclear annihilation.

We demand an immediate end to this illegal war on Iran and a complete halt to all aid to Israel.

With the April 5th and June 14th protests, the anti-MAGA movement is beginning to find its feet. It, along with peace and other democratic organizations, need to make their voices heard as loudly as possible. Building relationships and united actions with labor, people of color, women, LGBTQ, and environmental movements must be undertaken.

Protest should not only be directed at the White House and Congress but also the military corporations supplying the war.

We call on all progressive forces and peace-loving people to organize and take action to stop the U.S.-Israeli aggression and end this war!

We stand in solidarity with the people of Iran, its working class, and our fraternal Tudeh Party as they fight this latest assault.

The U.S. people are tired of endless wars. Hands off Iran!
