TO: People’s World readers
FROM: Mark Gruenberg, Washington Bureau Chief
First of all, let me thank you for you devotion to and close reading of People’s World. It’s only March, but it’s already been a busy and news-jammed year for us as we scramble with a small staff to give you news and analysis that nobody else—especially in the mainstream media—provides. I can say that from experience, as I used to work for the MSM.
Nobody else but People’s World covers Donald Trump’s war on Iran and includes dispatches from inside Iran—dispatches which counter the mainstream media line, dominated by official pronouncements. From Donald Trump, those are official lies.
Few in the MSM cover the details of Trump’s war on workers. We do. That includes constant reminders, from his first term, and continuing through his infamous Project 2025, that first he plans to destroy federal workers and their unions and then plans to destroy all other workers and their unions.
Contrary to what Trump claims, his policies and his economy destroy lives. We say so, and bring you those stories.
And nobody else keeps banging the drum on how Trump and his troops are tearing our Constitution and our democracy to shreds. Having covered Watergate for my university’s newspaper while a student, this is a particular cause for me as your D.C. Bureau Chief, as you’ve seen in our pages.
I never thought anyone could try to subvert our small-R republic as badly as Richard Nixon tried. Trump makes Nixon look like an amateur soldier in that anti-constitution crusade. People’s World says so.
Nobody else has been out there at the battles against the billionaire class and corporate greed and repression, now for more than a century. People’s World has.
But we can’t do this without money. And we don’t take advertising. One big flaw in the mainstream media is that when they get paid to run ads, they must kowtow to the advertisers. Sometimes it’s outright corporate censorship. Most times it’s self-censorship. More recently, it’s been Trump turning the screws on the MSM for millions of dollars.
We at People’s World don’t do that. But we still need income, which is where you come in.
If you’re a donor, thank you, but could you pay more for your paper? If you’re paying more, could you become a sustainer? There’s a page on the website to make the process easy. Donations and monthly sustainer contributions keep us going, so please donate whatever you can. And tell your friends, family, and neighbors to read us and then donate, too.
People’s World is an important news source for all of us, so let’s keep it going.
In Solidarity,
Mark Gruenberg
Washington Bureau Chief
