CHICAGO—“I don’t worship political parties; I worship God and I support the people.”

Former Ohio State Sen. Nina Turner sat down with People’s World on Sunday at the Chicago Teachers Union hall, the hub for Progressive Central, ahead of the Democratic National Convention.

The topic of the burgeoning peace movement was directly on her mind. “The Democrats will not win in November unless they marry their rhetoric with a real commitment to putting an embargo on the bombs,” she predicted.

When asked if the large demonstrations at the DNC or a ceasefire and an arms embargo on Israel will have an impact, Turner said, “No great movement…no great social, political, economic change that permeates the soul of this country, has ever been done because people in power think they want to do the right thing. They’ve always been forced to do it.”
