VIDEO: After the DNC, what’s next for the Uncommitted Movement?
Layla Elabed

People’s World correspondents had the opportunity to speak with Uncommitted Movement co-chair Layla Elabed at the headquarters of the Rainbow/PUSH coalition in Chicago during the Democratic National Convention in 2024.

Elabed expressed the need to pressure the Harris-Walz campaign on all fronts in order to stop the genocide in Gaza and enact an immediate arms embargo on the state of Israel. She noted the opportunities for change that opened after Biden stepped aside as the Democratic nominee and Harris became the party’s pick.

“It’s always the Democratic Party that’s first to say, especially when there is violence from mass shootings, that thoughts and prayers are not enough. We need policy change. In this situation, it is no different,” she told People’s World.

Watch the video below as Elabed discusses what comes next for the Uncommitted Movement.
