“Heat” in Cleveland

The life was sucked out of Cleveland yesterday, July 8, as LeBron James announced he would be joining Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh in Miami. As he made his announcement Cleveland fans were in awe and disbelief. The only thing they had in the sports world, and for some, the only thing they had in Cleveland/Northeast Ohio is gone.

Cavalier owner Dan Gilbert lashed out at James. He accused James of being “narcissistic” and “cowardly” and his decision was a “betrayal.”

As for Miami, the party city, the celebration continued as they learned that James would be joining the Heat. The fans rejoiced as the potential dynasty begins.

“I worry for the rest of the NBA East, I’m worried for the whole NBA,” said a fan.

Business owners are happy about the move because people will actually want to go out and watch the games, therefore improving their profits.

Many people are criticizing James for making his decision on live television and for leaving his hometown, but can you really blame him?

People claim the decision was dumb because he is taking less money. It is not about the money to him, though. It’s about that championship ring he wants on his finger so bad. Lebron makes as much money off the court as he does on the court with sponsorships from Nike, State Farm etc.

When players enter the NBA they want to become stars and eventually legends. In order to do that, you have to win games consistently and win championships.

LA Lakers Kobe Bryant has five rings; Chicago Bulls Michael Jordan has six. James has none. He wants to be mentioned in that category. In order to do that he has to win a couple of championships. That just wasn’t possible in Cleveland. Why blame the guy for choosing a path where he can meet his goal?

Look at it this way, you’re playing a pick up game of basketball, you want to win right? Are you going to choose a team with decent players, or players who are outstanding that can help you win? 

If you are a “Lebron” fan you should support him in any decision he makes. His move was a good one and will earn him a couple of championships so he goes down as one of the best to ever play the game.
