
CHICAGO – A coalition demanding community control of the police gathered downtown July 11 near the Department of Justice to protest the police shootings of Philando Castile of Falcon Heights, MN and Alton Sterling of Baton Rouge, LA.
Kofi Xola of Black Lives Matter – Chicago called for people to join in organizing efforts, and for disarming the police. Frank Chapman, national field organizer for the National Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression (NAARPR), called the DOJ the “Department of Injustice” for not going after police that shoot unarmed civilians. Victims and their family members spoke along with organizers from Black Lives Matter – Chicago, Black Youth Project 100 and the Chicago Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression (CAARPR).
