BEIJING, July 9 — A man was taken into custody this weekend for allegedly stealing a vehicle operating as an unlicensed cab in Beijing’s Haidian area.
The thief thought the vehicle owner would never report the crime for fear of being reprimanded himself. He thought wrong.
On Saturday night, the accused got in the taxi, well aware it was missing a number plate, and a while later, complained the driver was driving too slow. Somehow, the suspect convinced the driver to take another taxi and lead the way, while he drove his cab for him to the desired destination.
As soon as the driver stepped out of the vehicle to flag down another taxi, the accused sped away with the unlicensed cab, only to be nabbed 15 minutes later and charged with car snatching.
