Hangout Tuesday with CPUSA’s new head red

Join us Tuesday, Sept. 16, 8 p.m. Eastern in a Google+ Hangout with John Bachtell, the newly elected chair of the Communist Party USA, on a variety of topics from the elections, reform and revolution to climate change, capitalism and upcoming People’s Climate March. He may even share his famous hummus recipe and other healthy vegetarian dishes!

Bachtell was formerly the party’s organizer in Illinois before being elected chair at the CPUSA convention in June. Originally from Ohio, he worked as a leader of the Young Communist League and later as head of the party in New York. He plays guitar and is an avid gardener, vegetarian, cook and swimmer. Active in numerous political campaigns, Bachtell also ran for office in the Bronx. He has been arrested several times in acts of civil disobedience, including protesting the 1999 New York police killing of Amadou Diallo. Bachtell has participated in and reported on mass movements from Occupy Wall Street to Madison uprising to immigrant rights mega marches and is a tireless advocate for peace, democracy, equality and socialism. Bachtell lives in Chicago with his wife/partner and is the proud father of two grown children.
